Happy Super Sunday. Yes another "unofficial" national holiday is upon us. Millions of Americans will gather around plasma screens all over the country to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals in hopes of hoisting the Lombardi trophy into the Tampa night. Many buffalo wings will be consumed, pounds of seven layer dip will be shoveled into mouths, and many nights will be capped off with dui's and trips to jail. It has gotten to the point where one may feel the need to hang a jock strap by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Madden soon will be there.
Which brings me to what will make this Super Bowl super. John Madden aka Captain Obvious. Now usually I'm not rooting for my favorite team, because they suck and never make it to the Super Bowl. I then root for the team I don't hate (i.e. anyone playing the Patriots). Despite being only 45 miles from Pittsburgh, I'm not rooting for the Steelers, nor do I hate them. I don't hate or like the Cardinals. So this year I'm more interested in counting Capt n's accomplishments of sports broadcasting. I'm hoping for at least three comments like "the team that scores the most points usually wins", or "now see, the thing you want to do is stop the other team from scoring points". Then there's the comments like "He'll do whatever it takes to bring a guy down, even pull his pants down". He has actually said something close to that, when said event took place on the field, but out of Madden it just sounds wonderful. Like the Little Mermaind singing on a rock in the middle of the ocean. I'm especially looking forward to the special sneak peek preview of the new Disney/Pixar film about the adventures of two caterpillars as they become butterflys, staring John Madden's eye brows as the caterpillars. NBC has given us Football Night in America, which even as a football fan I have to admit, overdoes it's coverage, but hey if Madden comes along with the package sign me up. I'll watch your 6 hour pregame. I mean Pittsburgh stations started their coverage at 9am this morning. So I know absolutely everything about Ben Rothlesberger.
Even if my team was in XLIII and lost I wouldn't act like this little bitch.
So, que St. Elmo's Fire (my personal victory song) as I walk off this field and freeze frame me as I look over my shoulder and give thumbs up to the injured teammate I just won the game for. I'm hitting the showers.
Have a safe Super Sunday. Oh and just for fun I'm picking the Steelers to win this one. Obama's picking them and you don't go against Obama.
